Buckingham has a new charity shop, and it belongs to an air ambulance that carries critically ill babies and children.
The National Children’s Air Ambulance opened a boutique store at 64 Well Street, Buckingham, MK18 1EN on Friday 4 September. The charity describes the site as “just outside Buckingham town centre”, and gives the address as Well Street, Stratford Fields. Kevin Chappell, the charity’s retail area manager, said in the announcement: “Please visit our store to grab a bargain, donate your pre-loved items and even chat about volunteering opportunities. Every visit or donation helps to keep our helicopters flying 24/7, 365 days a year.”
What the money pays for
The National Children’s Air Ambulance is not a local air ambulance. It is a national transfer service, flying critically ill babies and children between hospitals rather than to the scene of an accident. The charity says it works alongside eleven NHS paediatric teams across England, Scotland and Wales.
It receives no government or National Lottery funding. Every mission is paid for by donations, and the charity puts the average cost of one at £5,700. That is the figure the Buckingham shop is working against.
Where it sits in the network
The Air Ambulance Service runs two brands, Your Local Air Ambulance and the National Children’s Air Ambulance. Its shop finder lists 60 stores between them, 21 of them under the children’s air ambulance name. Four of those 21 are in Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes:

Buckingham is the only one of the four in the Aylesbury Vale half of the county. The other three are in Milton Keynes and at Princes Risborough, on the old Wycombe side.
What it means for you
- If you are clearing out, the shop takes pre-loved items over the counter six days a week, 9am to 5pm.
- If you want to volunteer, the charity says to ask in store, or use the volunteering page on its website.
- If you are shopping, it is a boutique format, so expect clothing and accessories rather than a general jumble.
- It is not on the High Street. The charity places the shop just outside the town centre, at the Stratford Fields end of Well Street, so allow for the walk from the Market Hill car parks.
