Over five hours costs £4.30 at Walton Street and £8.30 at Exchange Street. Sundays and bank holidays cost £1.80 everywhere, and Hale Street charges Blue Badges.
Buckinghamshire Council runs twelve car parks in Aylesbury and prices them very differently for the same length of stay. Park over five hours at Exchange Street, Upper Hundreds, Cooper’s Yard or Waterside and it is £8.30. Do the same at Walton Street or Whitehall Street, both a few minutes further out, and it is £4.30.
That £4.00 gap is the single most useful thing to know about parking here.

Exchange Street also has a 30-minute rate of £1.10, the only short stop in the town centre priced below an hour.
Free parking, and the four traps
Free outside charging hours. Almost every Aylesbury car park charges only between 8am and 9pm from Monday to Saturday, and the council’s pages say plainly that parking is free outside those times. Evening and overnight parking is free.
Then the traps.
Sundays and bank holidays are not free. Every charged car park in Aylesbury costs £1.80 all day on a Sunday or a bank holiday. That is cheap, but it is not nothing, and a driver who assumes Sunday is free gets a penalty charge.
Aqua Vale charges seven days a week. The Park Street car park by the leisure centre is the exception to the 8am to 9pm rule: its tariff runs Monday to Sunday, and its 24-hour rate of £10.30 is the highest in town.
Hale Street charges Blue Badge holders. Every other Aylesbury car park is free for Blue Badge holders. Hale Street’s page states that “parking fees apply to all users, including Blue Badge holders”. It is also the only car park charging until midnight rather than 9pm, and it has a one-hour maximum stay.
Friarscroft locks its gates at 8:30pm. The multi-storey shuts at 8:30pm and you cannot get in or out after that. If your car is inside, the council’s page gives a number to call, warns it can take up to an hour to get someone out, and charges £75 for the release.
One more oddity: Whitehall Street has no payment machine at all. It is pay by app or phone only.
Motorcycles
Motorcycles park free in marked bays at Exchange Street, at Waterside North, and on Level 2 of Upper Hundreds. Park a motorcycle in an ordinary bay at Exchange Street and the normal fee applies.
How you pay
Buckinghamshire’s machines are ticketless, so there is nothing to display in the windscreen once you have paid: the details go straight to the enforcement officers. The council lists credit and debit cards at machines, and any app on the National Parking Platform, which means the location code is the same whichever app you use.

Permits and season tickets
Everything is digital through MiPermit. The council issues no paper permit or windscreen ticket.
The ordinary Aylesbury season tickets are expensive. A Group 1 ticket covering Cooper’s Yard, Friarscroft, Hampden House, Walton Green, Whitehall Street and Upper Hundreds is £1,863 for twelve months. A Group 3 long-stay outer ticket for Friarscroft and Walton Green is £799, and Walton Street on its own is £932. Concessionary and workers’ permits, both needing proof of employment, run at £932 and £777.
Two resident permits are far cheaper at £106 for twelve months, but they are tied to named streets:
- the Highbridge Walk permit covers residents of Highbridge Walk, Willowbank Terrace, Brookside Terrace and Canalside Terrace, and is valid at Exchange Street, Hampden House and the top floor of Waterside
- the Old Aylesbury permit covers Old Aylesbury including Walton Green, Wendover Road and the Walton Green side of Stoke Road, and is valid at Cooper’s Yard, Friarscroft, Whitehall Street and Walton Green
Prices are from the council’s Aylesbury area car park season ticket fees. The council does not publish on-street resident permit prices on its website, so this page does not cover them: you have to go through MiPermit to see them.
Blue Badge parking
Blue Badge holders park free in all Aylesbury council car parks except Hale Street. The largest allocations of accessible bays are at Exchange Street with 38, Walton Street with 28 and Upper Hundreds with 10. Anchor Lane, off the town centre, is seven bays reserved entirely for Blue Badge holders and is free.
On the street, the council’s Blue Badge rules allow free parking in disabled bays and at pay-and-display machines for as long as you need, and up to three hours on single or double yellow lines. One restriction is easy to miss: the council states that Blue Badges are not valid on double yellow lines inside council car parks.
Station parking: the Parkway is a third of the price
Aylesbury has two stations, and the price difference between them is large. Chiltern Railways’ current tariff sheet, effective 27 July 2026, prices them like this:

Off-peak charges start at noon Monday to Friday and apply all day at weekends and on public holidays. Parking at Aylesbury Vale Parkway is free all day on Sundays and public holidays.
Aylesbury station has 301 spaces and six accessible bays, and Chiltern says parking is free in the disabled bays for Blue Badge holders once you have registered your number plate at the ticket office. The RingGo code is 2609 for Aylesbury and 2608 for the Parkway.
An annual season ticket at the Parkway costs £537.60 against £1,629.60 at Aylesbury station, a difference of £1,092 a year.
Free parking days
Buckinghamshire Council gives two free parking days in December, the second and third Saturday of the month, at every car park that supports a high street. In 2026 those Saturdays are 12 and 19 December. The council says it will publish more detail later in the year.
Separately, town and parish councils can each request two free parking days a year to support local events. In this area the eligible car parks are Cooper’s Yard, Friarscroft and Waterside North in Aylesbury, Cornwalls Meadow in Buckingham, Wendover Library, and Market Square in Winslow. Applications for 2026 closed on 30 April.
Buckingham, Winslow and Wendover are much cheaper
The old Aylesbury Vale market towns charge between 7am and 7pm rather than 8am to 9pm, and their tariffs are a fraction of Aylesbury’s.
- Cornwalls Meadow, Buckingham (310 spaces): three hours 80p, over five hours £2.80
- Western Avenue, Buckingham (42 spaces): identical to Cornwalls Meadow
- Swan Pool, Buckingham (124 spaces): two hours £1.30, up to 24 hours £6.30
- Greyhound Lane, Winslow (68 spaces): one hour 60p, over five hours £2.80
- Wendover Library (67 spaces): one hour 60p, up to 11 hours £4.30, and an 11-hour maximum stay
Three local details are worth carrying:
- Winslow’s Market Square is currently free for the first hour and free on Sundays, because Winslow Town Council is paying for it. The council’s page states the usual prices are 60p and £1.80. Bank holidays are still £1.80. The car park also closes from 11:59pm on Tuesdays until 7pm on Wednesdays for the market.
- Greyhound Lane charges the weekday rate on bank holidays, not the £1.80 Sunday rate. Its page says charges apply Monday to Saturday “including bank holidays”.
- There are no season tickets at all for car parks in Buckingham, Wendover or Winslow.
Market traders at Cornwalls Meadow have their own spaces on Tuesdays and Saturdays, but need a market trader permit and must buy an “over 5 hours” session.
Parking fines
A penalty charge notice from Buckinghamshire Council is £70 for a higher-level contravention and £50 for a lower one, halved if you pay within 14 days. The council warns that it never asks for payment by text message or WhatsApp.
