The Aylesbury Times is an independent news and information site for Aylesbury, Buckingham and the villages around them. We work from public records, we link to them, and we are not connected to the council or to anybody we report on.
The patch
Aylesbury is the anchor: the county town, the largest settlement in the vale and the place most local services are run from. Buckingham to the north is a market town with its own long history and its own way of doing things. Around them sit Wendover, Winslow, Haddenham, Waddesdon, Stone and the villages of the Vale of Aylesbury, with the Chilterns rising along the southern edge. We name the actual town or village in every story.
One council for everything
Buckinghamshire Council took over from the county council and the old district councils in 2020, which means a single authority now decides planning, bins, parking, licensing, council tax, roads and schools across the whole county. That makes its paperwork the single most useful thing to read if you want to know what is happening here, and almost nobody reads it. We do.
How we report
From named sources, always linked: the council’s planning register and committee papers, licensing notices, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, Environment Agency flood warnings for the local rivers and brooks, and company filings in The Gazette. Where a record is unclear we say it is unclear rather than filling the gap, and we write in plain British English.
