Aylesbury's Rabans Close tip is shut for drainage works until December. Aston Clinton is open 9am to 4pm daily from 1 October, closed Christmas Day.
Aylesbury’s household recycling centre on Rabans Close is closed. It shut after Tuesday 1 September 2026 for drainage works and Buckinghamshire Council expects it to reopen before the end of December 2026. Until then the council is sending Aylesbury residents to Aston Clinton, which is open seven days a week, or to Buckingham if you live north of the town (Buckinghamshire Council, 3 August 2026).
The quick answer

Opening times this winter
The council’s waste access and acceptance policy sets summer hours of 9am to 6pm from 1 April to 30 September and winter hours of 9am to 4pm from 1 October to 31 March. Last year the switch was announced a week ahead, on 22 September 2025. Staff warn you ten minutes before closing, and at busy times last entry can be earlier than the closing time.

The individual site pages for Aston Clinton and Buckingham still showed 9am to 6pm on 25 September. The policy’s winter hours take over on 1 October, and in 2025 the pages changed to 9am to 4pm.
Christmas and New Year
All Buckinghamshire recycling centres close on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day and are open on every other bank holiday. In 2025 the council said the sites would keep their usual winter hours on all other days over the holiday (Buckinghamshire Council, 18 December 2025). This year the Boxing Day bank holiday is a substitute day, Monday 28 December (GOV.UK). The council’s pages say “Boxing Day” without a date, so whether the sites close on Saturday 26 December, Monday 28 December or both is not yet stated. We will confirm it when the council publishes its Christmas arrangements.

Aston Clinton while Aylesbury is shut
Aston Clinton has more than twice Aylesbury’s unloading space, 25 bays against 11, and the council has moved Aylesbury staff there for the closure. It is busiest on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and quietest on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Buckingham has only six bays.
Two things differ between the two open sites:
- Asbestos: Aston Clinton takes it, with a permit and a charge. Buckingham does not.
- Business and charity waste: Aston Clinton accepts it for a fee, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Buckingham does not.
What you need to take
There is no booking system. Use is free if you live in Buckinghamshire, but bring proof of address such as a driving licence or council tax bill. You need a waste permit for DIY waste within the free weekly allowance, for a van, pick-up or large trailer, and for asbestos. Fireworks, flammables and tree trunks thicker than 20cm are refused everywhere.
