Garden waste stops on 14 December and restarts 25 January. The 2026 Christmas bin dates are not out yet: here is last year's table and how it moved.
Buckinghamshire Council has not yet published its revised bin collection dates for Christmas and New Year 2026/27. One date is already fixed: garden waste collections stop on 14 December 2026 and start again on Monday 25 January 2027, according to the council’s garden waste page.
The quick answer
- Garden waste is suspended from 14 December 2026 to 22 January 2027 and restarts on your usual day from Monday 25 January.
- Food, recycling and general waste dates for Christmas week are not published yet. Last year the whole round slid by a day from Christmas Day until the second Saturday in January.
- Bins must be out by 6:30am on the revised day.
Why this Christmas will move collections again
The bank holidays fall on Friday 25 December 2026, a substitute Monday 28 December for Boxing Day, and Friday 1 January 2027 (GOV.UK). Three bank holidays in eight days, two of them Fridays, is the shape that pushes Friday collections onto Saturdays.
Buckinghamshire runs one revised table for the whole county, Aylesbury Vale included. When a normal bank holiday falls, the council’s bin day checker carries a table showing every collection that week moving one day later, with Friday going to Saturday. Our Aylesbury bin days page explains the containers and the normal fortnightly pattern.
Last year’s table, and it is only a guide
These are not this year’s dates. They are the revised days the council published for Christmas 2025, in a news release on 18 December 2025, and they show how far the knock-on runs.
| Normal day | Revised day |
|---|---|
| Thursday 25 December 2025 (Christmas Day) | Saturday 27 December |
| Friday 26 December 2025 (Boxing Day) | Monday 29 December |
| Monday 29 December | Tuesday 30 December |
| Tuesday 30 December | Wednesday 31 December |
| Wednesday 31 December | Friday 2 January 2026 |
| Thursday 1 January 2026 (New Year's Day) | Saturday 3 January |
| Friday 2 January | Monday 5 January |
| Monday 5 January | Tuesday 6 January |
| Tuesday 6 January | Wednesday 7 January |
| Wednesday 7 January | Thursday 8 January |
| Thursday 8 January | Friday 9 January |
| Friday 9 January | Saturday 10 January |
Collections from Monday 22 to Wednesday 24 December 2025 did not appear in the table, so they ran on their normal days. The catch-up ran until Saturday 10 January, more than two weeks after Christmas.
The table itself was ready well before the release. By 13 October 2025 the bin day checker already carried a link headed “Changes to services this Christmas” to the revised schedule (archived 13 October 2025). So the 2026 dates could appear from October.
Christmas trees and extra waste
In 2025 the council said garden waste subscribers could put real Christmas trees, wreaths, holly and mistletoe in the garden waste bin once collections restarted, with decorations removed and trees cut into smaller pieces. Everyone else can take a real tree to a household recycling centre. Small electricals and batteries go on top of the bin lid on collection day, never inside a bin.
Aylesbury’s own recycling centre on Rabans Close is closed until December for drainage works, so check before you drive. Opening times, Christmas closures and the alternatives are on our Aylesbury tip opening times page.
If you are driving into town for the Christmas shopping, our parking in Aylesbury and roadworks pages cover the car parks and road closures.
Still to be confirmed
- The revised 2026/27 collection table. Last year it was linked from the bin day checker by mid October and announced on 18 December. We will add it here as soon as the council publishes it.
- Christmas tree collection arrangements for 2026, which last year came in the same December release.
